In Digital Media 1 the students need to learn the software programs. My class starts with scanning and Adobe Photoshop. I asked the students to make type making use of textures that you wouldn't be able to create directly in the computer.
Last Thursday I asked the students to bring three large potatoes and a cutting knife to class.
They have a tendency to be very literal with their concepts and imagery. I thought this medium would help them make simple patterns and compositions. These are the results.
It's mid semester, so I asked my students to write their own evaluations. I told them they could suggest a grade for themselves as well. Above is one of the responses I got from a Design 1 student.
I asked the students to make type out of everyday materials. Such as paper cups, toilet paper or a flash light. I told them to work large scale. They used digital cameras to document their work. One group of students chose to combine the element. They used toilet paper, hair mousse, and fire.
I created this blog to document my experience as a young Design Educator. I have taugher college and at a private Montessori school. My students have been ranged in age from 2-23.
